Fair Shot Housing

About Fair Shot Housing

We help people find affordable housing they can apply for.

Who we are

Fair Shot Housing is an independent website. We bring affordable housing listings together in one place, so you do not have to check one agency site after another.

We are not a government agency, and we don’t run any housing. The building or housing office that runs each listing decides who qualifies and who gets in.

Our mission

Everyone who qualifies for an affordable home deserves a fair shot at it. Finding one shouldn’t depend on knowing where to look. Today, homes you can apply for are spread across hundreds of agency, city and lottery websites. Deadlines are short. The rules are hard to read. Scams that charge application fees take advantage of the confusion.

So we gather the listings in one place. For each one, we show what it asks for, how to apply, and whether you may qualify. We don’t run the housing or choose who gets in. You apply on the official website for each listing.

Where our listings come from

  • Official sources. We collect listings from the public websites of housing agencies, lottery sites and the groups that run affordable buildings. Each listing links to where we found it.
  • Every number comes from the official website. If it does not post a rent, an income limit or a deadline, the listing says “Not posted”.
  • Closed listings come off. Every day, listings whose deadline has passed are taken off the search pages.

What to double-check

We cover many areas but not all of them, so also check your local housing office. That is the government office in your area that runs housing help. Some buildings don’t announce when an apartment opens up. We call these apply-direct buildings. To find out if an apartment is free, you need to ask the building.

The qualify check is a good guess, not an approval. The building or housing office checks your documents and makes the final decision.

Found a mistake?

Every listing page has a “Report an error in this listing” link at the bottom. You can also write to us about anything else, including a listing or a building we are missing.
