Section 202 supportive housing for the elderly: who qualifies

Section 202 buildings are apartment buildings for households with someone 62 or older and a very low income, usually at or under 50% of the area median income. Nonprofit owners run them, so you apply at each building, not to the federal housing department. Rent is usually about 30% of your income after deductions.

Low-income senior housing: how to find and apply (55+ and 62+)

Low-income senior housing is rental housing for people aged 55 and older, or 62 and older, depending on the building, who are under an income limit. The main kinds are Section 202 buildings (a federal program for older adults run by HUD, the federal housing department), public housing and income-restricted apartments. You apply to each building or local housing office.
